Did you know that this week is Black Maternal Mental Health week?
Black women are most likely to have experienced a common mental disorder such as anxiety or depression as reported in the 2017 Race Disparity Audit.
That’s why Black Maternal Mental Health Week UK was launched to highlight the disparities, raise awareness and break the cultural barriers in maternal mental health for black mothers and birthing people in the UK.
You can support the campaign by:
- Educating yourself on the issues black mothers and birthing people face.
- Holding conversations about black maternal mental health. The more we talk about it the more the stigma will be reduced.
The organisers have also written a report that describes the barriers faced by women in accessing perinatal health services and gives some recommendations.
